Elvis was here! Located on US41, the city of Inverness (once known as Toompkinsville) was renamed Inverness in 1899 and became the county seats of Citrus County. Today it is a destination city to enjoy preserved history, outdoor recreation, and diverse shopping.
The 1912 historic courthouse is famed for its copper cupola and for being the setting for the final scenes of the 1968 Elvis Presley movie Follow That Dream.
Outdoor fun inclused hiking and biking the Withlacoochee State Trail and swimming and fishing in local lakes.
Within the town are the historic wooden Crown Hotel (now an assisted living facility), the restored 1920s era Valerie Theatre, active for cultural events, Stump Knockers Restaurant, boutique coffee shops, ice cream parolors, and neighborhood style taverns with preserved historic downtown buildings still in commercial use.
