Antigua Easter Holy Week
Antigua, Guatemala is renowned for its elaborate Semana Santa Easter Holy Week celebrations which include grand processions (some starting at 3 AM), intricate carpets (alfombras) made from flower petals and colored sawdust, and a unique blend of Spanish and Mayan traditions. The festivities span from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday with processions, vigils, historical pageantry, and other religious and cultural events and are recognized as the largest Easter celebration in the world.
