Belize Confederate Cemetery

The Confederate Cemetery is located in the back of the Forest Home Village Cemetery in the Toledo District in southern Belize, a settlement established by 300 to 1,000 CSA veterans in 1867. The pioneers succeeded in establishing 12 sugar estates in the area. Today 14 graves remain not engulfed by jungle, nine with inscriptions and identifiable names being Mason and Pearce. Notable, the Methodist minister Rev. Levi Pearce led the recruitment of the CSA settlers to seek their new future in British Honduras.
